Rysk Dota 2-spelare uttryckte sitt stöd för invasionen av Ukraina och fick inte bara sparken utan även hela laget diskvalificerat

Det var i helgen som Virtus.pros Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko ertappades när han ritade en symbol som anses stödja Rysslands invasion av Ukraina på en karta i Dota 2. Enligt Yahoo, som bevakade kvalificeringsrundan för ESL One Stockholm Major så passade alltså Moskalenko på att rita ett "Z" på spelkartan, symbolen som tidigt kunde ses målad på rysk militär utrustning och som numera starkt förknippas med support för Putins krigsföring.

Spelet mellan Virtus.pros lag Outsiders och Mind Games, ett team som notabelt också innefattar två spelare från Ukraina var pausat när Ivan plötsligt började nyttja funktionen i Dota 2 som tillåter deltagare att fritt rita och skriva på kartan och resultatet blev alltså bokstaven Z. Hans lagkamrater upptäckte vad som hänt och försökte snabbt att rita över tecknet men skadan var redan skedd.

Enligt Ivan Moskalenko var det en ren olycka och ingen medveten provokation. Så här säger han själv om incidenten:

"There was a long pause in the game, the guys and I were talking and drawing on the minimap. When we realized what exactly my drawing turned out to be, we tried to cover it up. I didn't mean to offend anyone, it all happened by accident. Peace to all."

Det hjälpte dock föga, katten var så att säga redan ute ur säcken och laget diskvalificerades per omgående, varpå Mind Games tilldelades segern och Outsiders diskas även i samtliga kommande matcher. Helt orimligt att ett helt lag skall tvingas klä skott för något en enskild individ gjort tyckte dock Virtus.pro och gick ut med följande uttalande:

"Right after the incident with Pure during game 1 we contacted Valve and the tournament organizer while conducting our own investigation. Sergey Glamazda, CEO of Virtus.pro, personally talked to the players between the games to find out more about what happened. Pure publicly explained himself right after the game. BTS also contacted other players of our team to hear their side of the story. We were notified that the final decision was up to the publisher.

The severity of the punishment is shocking. Valve has a certain history of imposing disciplinary measures, but disqualifying the whole team from a DPC tournament based on a drawing on a minimap by single player sets up a whole new precedent.

Any actions have consequences, whether intentional or not. Virtus.pro has been consistently opposing any cases of inciting hatred in esports. The club terminates contract with Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko for his diminishing actions that led to disqualification from the tournament and caused a great deal of harm to our relationship with the worldwide esports society."
