Tidigare Bioware-författare oroar sig för TV-serier om Mass Effect och Dragon Age

En av de mer inflytelserika personerna på Bioware, som hjälpte till att forma både Mass Effect- och Dragon Age-serierna, är David Gaider, som dock lämnade företaget för en tid sedan. Nyligen avslöjades det att Amazon håller på att säkra ett avtal som gör det möjligt för dem att tolka Mass Effect som en TV-serie, men Gaider är lite orolig.

Via Twitter säger han att Mass Effect är utformat för att ha en huvudperson som bygger på spelarens egna val, och att detta gör att serien kanske inte lämplig för en filmatisering:

"[Mass Effect and Dragon Age] have a custom protagonist," says Gaider. "Meaning said TV show will need to pick whether said protagonist will be male or female. Boom, right off the bat you've just alienated a whole bunch of the built-in fan base who had their hopes up. Those protagonists are designed to be a bit of a blank slate, one that the player fills out with their decisions. That's not going to work for a passive medium. So, suddenly, the protagonist will have their own personality... and their own *story*. "

Gaider lyfter också fram hur spelets förhållande till följeslagare formar upplevelsen och hur en TV-serie omöjligen kan skapa tillräckligt med tid för alla:

"Think of those companions. Think of how MUCH the fanbase is attached to them. Now consider the fact that there is no way in hell any single story could encompass them all equally. Think of the howls of rage when companion X is relegated to a cameo... or not there at all."
